Application Guidelines

Important - Read the Guidelines below

General Instructions

All accredited Nursing Institutions and their admitted Students are advised to visit the www.nmcnigeria.org or portal.nmcn.gov.ng to complete applications for Indexing and Examination, as applicable.

Students are to complete these three (3) key steps for Indexing and Exam Applications:

  • Step 1: Visit the council site at portal.nmcn.gov.ng to initiate the appropriate application
  • Step 2: Obtain online clearance to proceed for payment from your school clearance officer, then
  • Step 3: Proceed to make payment using available payment options on the portal

Important Notice:
You are advised to scan copies of the required documents / credentials that are to be uploaded in the recommended file format i.e. .Jpeg, size and dimensions before you start your application.
You are to proof read the entered information before you submit the application to your school officer for clearance.
Please note that you will not be able to edit any wrongly spelt information on your application, especially after clearance and actual payment is confirmed on the portal.

+ How to Apply for Indexing?
Requirements:

Applicants are to supply scanned copy of the following documents / credentials to process an indexing application:

  • One recent colour passport photograph not more than 15kb in size, width of 130px and height of 182px in Jpeg format only
  • O'level Examination Certificates (i.e. WAEC, NECO or GCE) not more than 200kb in Jpeg format only.
  • Birth Certificate / Declaration of Age not more than 200kb in Jpeg format only.
  • Testimonial not more than 200kb in .Jpeg format only
If you are a female applicant and your status reads married / divorced / widow; you are required to submit, in addition to the above:
  • Marriage Certificate Not More Than 200kb in Jpeg format only
  • Newspaper Publication showing marriage details not more than 200kb, Jpeg format only

Step 1: (Application Process)

  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the Indexing tab, locate and click the appropriate application form to start the application process:
    • Apply for Basic Indexing
    • Apply for Post Basic Indexing
  • For Basic Indexing, fill the application form and click the save button. For Post Basic Indexing, provide your Registration Number, click the start application button and fill the application form.
  • Click the Save button to view the applicant details page.
  • Click on Submit Application to submit your application. You will be prompted with a message informing you that modifications will no longer be possible after submission. Click on yes.
  • Copy and keep your Application Number that is displayed at the top of the page or check your email box for notifications from the council.

Step 2: (Clearance Process)

  • Report to your School Officer to obtain clearance
  • Your Clearance Officer will validate your application / submitted credentials
  • After successful validation of your credentials, your school officer will clear your application on the portal to go and make payment.
Important Notice:
Any application that is not paid for before the closure date will not be attended to by the Nursing & Midwifery Council and late entry registration fee will be charged to the school and the applicant

Step 3: (Payment Process)

  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the Indexing menu item, locate and click the Pay Application Fee
  • Provide your Application Number and Date of birth then click the Retrieve Application button
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page listing your application details and click the Proceed to Payment button. You will be presented with a summary of your application details.
  • Click the Pay Fee Now button. You will be connected to the Remita payment gateway.
  • Select a payment option from the options listed.
  • If you intend to pay at a bank, select Bank and click continue,
    • View the list of participating banks and then click on Continue
    • The Print Acknowledgment button will help you print Payment Acknowledgment Slip with Transaction ID, Application Number
    • With the copy of your Payment acknowledgement slip, proceed to a participating bank for payment.
    • On making payment at the bank, you MUST be issued with a Remita e-receipt that contains a RRR Number. .
  • If you have a funded ewallet account and intend to pay through this account, select eWallet
    • You will be required to fill in your eWallet log-in credentials. If you are not registered as a user, go to Register for eWallet.
    • After filling in, click Login button and you will be sent to the payment portal
    • For proceeding with the payment click the PAY button. The payment will be successful only if your account balance covers the total payable amount.
    • After payment, the RRR Number is generated. Store it and use it to confirm the payment.
    • You can also print a receipt by clicking the Print the Receipt button.
  • If you intend to pay through Credit/Debit card, select Credit/Debit card and click continue
    • You will be required to fill in your eWallet log-in credentials. If you are not registered as a user, go to Register for eWallet.
    • After filling in, click Login button and you will be sent to the payment portal
    • For proceeding with the payment click the PAY button.
    • Payment portal display application details, click on Continue button.
    • You will be prompted to Value Card payment page, provide information of your card & Click on OK button
    • After payment, the RRR Number is generated. Store it and use it to confirm the payment.
    • You can also print a receipt by clicking the Print the Receipt button.
  • If you intend to pay through InterSwitch, select InterSwitch and click continue,
    • You will be required to fill in your eWallet log-in credentials. If you are not registered as a user, go to Register for eWallet.
    • After filling in, click Login button and you will be sent to the payment portal
    • For proceeding with the payment click the PAY button.
    • Payment portal display application details, click on Continue button.
    • You will be prompted to InterSwitch payment page, provide information of your card & Click on OK button
    • After payment, the RRR Number is generated. Store it and use it to confirm the payment.
    • You can also print a receipt by clicking the Print the Receipt button.

+ How to Apply for an Examination?
Requirements:

  • Applicants are to ensure that they have successfully applied, paid for indexing and their Index number has been issued to them before applying for exams.
  • Applicants that do not have their index numbers two years before examination application may not be eligible for applications.

Step 1: (Application Process)

  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the Examination tab, locate and click the appropriate application form to start the application process:
    • Apply for Fresh Basic Examination
    • Apply for Fresh Post Basic Examination
    • Apply for Resit Basic Examination
    • Apply for Resit Post Basic Examination
  • For Applicants who are attempting an examination for the first time click on Apply for Fresh Basic Examination if you are undergoing a Basic Programme
  • For applicants who are attempting an examination for the first time and are undergoing a Post Basic Programme click on Apply for Fresh Post Basic Examination.
  • For applicants who are undergoing a Basic Program and have referred papers from a previous examination, click on Apply for Resit Basic Examination.
  • For applicants who are undergoing a Post Basic Program and have referred papers from a previous examination, click on Apply for Resit Post Basic Examination.
  • Basic and Post Basic Resit applicants are required to provide their index numbers before filling out the application form.
  • Click on Apply for Examination.
  • On the Apply for Examination page, select your examination type from the drop down list. All the examination papers you are required to sit for will be displayed to you
  • Click the Save button to view the applicant details page.
  • Click on Submit Application to submit your application. You will be prompted with a message informing you that modifications will no longer be possible after submission. Click on yes and submit.

Step 2: (Clearance Process)

Important Notice:
Applicant is to ensure that clearance and actual payment is completed for their application before the application closing date.
Any application that is not paid for before the closure date will not be attended to by the Nursing & Midwifery Council and late entry registration fee will be charged to the school and the applicant.

+ How do I edit my Application?
Important Notice

Editing an application can only be done by applicants who chose to save their application after filling the application form. If you chose to submit your application, you will not be able to edit it afterwards. Your School Clearance Officer will however have the capability to modify your application. Note that once your application has been cleared by your School Clearance Officer, edits are no longer possible.

To edit your indexing application:
  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the indexing tab, locate and click 'Edit Indexing Application' link
  • Provide your Application Number and Date of birth (Your application number is usually displayed to you after you submit an application and is also sent to your email). Your application details will be displayed to you.
  • Make the necessary modifications and click the save button. Your modifications will be saved
To edit your Examination application:
  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • For Basic Examination applicants, locate and click the 'Edit Basic Examination Application' link. Post Basic Applicants should locate and click the 'Edit Post Basic Examination Application' link
  • Provide your Application Number and Date of birth (Your application number is usually displayed to you after you submit an application and is also sent to your email). Your application details will be displayed to you.
  • Make the necessary modifications and click the save button. Your modifications will be saved

+ What happens after I have paid my application fees?

After paying the specified fees for your application, the NMCN immediately commences the processing of your application. Note that no application will be processed by the council without payment.

+ What are the current application fees?

All application fees are displayed in the FAQ section of the portal. To view application fees:

  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the FAQ section, click on Application Fees. A list of all application fees will be displayed to you.

+ How do I receive my Examination/Index Number?

Your examination number and/or index number depending on which application you initiated will be sent to your email AFTER your application has been approved by the council. Your number (Indexing/examination) will also be emailed to your School Clearance Officer after approval by the Council. Note that numbers will only be allocated to candidates approved by the Council.

+ What do I do if my application is disapproved?

If your application is disapproved by the council, an email will be sent to you listing all the deficiencies and reasons behind the disapproval of your application. You will then be required to log onto the portal, modify your application and re-submit it. Note that updating and re-submitting your application attracts no fees. To update your disapproved indexing/examination application:

  • Visit the home page of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria registration portal at portal.nmcn.gov.ng
  • Under the Indexing tab, click on 'Update Disapproved Application'.
  • Provide your application number and date of birth. Your application details will be displayed to you clearly listing all deficiencies noted in your application.
  • Make the necessary modifications and click the Submit button. Your application will be submitted to the Council.

+ How much do I pay for Applications?

+ What are the application deadlines for Indexing and Examination?

Application deadlines and timelines are displayed on the portal once the portal is open.

+ I get an error message saying "Your record could not be found..." when I try to apply for a Resit examination

Follow the steps below:

  1. Contact your School Officer and provide the following information:
    • Index Number
    • Examination Number
    • Date of Last Examination
    • Examination Type (i.e. Basic Nursing, Post Basic Nursing etc)
    • Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
    • Mobile Number
    • Email Address
    • Nursing Institution
    • Nursing Institution State
  2. Your School Officer should submit the above details for applicants whose records are not available on the portal via the NMCN support email : nmcn.support@swglobal.com
  3. You will be contacted by the Support Unit and advised to proceed with your online application.

+ I get an error message saying "Your record could not be found..." when I try to apply for Post Basic Indexing

Follow the steps below:

  1. Contact your School Officer and provide the following information:
    • Basic Registration Number (i.e. General Nursing or Basic Midwifery)
    • Date of Registration
    • Examination Type (i.e. Basic Nursing, Post Basic Nursing etc)
    • Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
